Thoughts on using Reddit effectively

Okay, I ended up writing this on the CM wiki as Using reddit.

Why care about reddit? See for instance Alex K. Chen’s answer to “What are the most underrated life skills?”: “the ability to find the truly relevant+accurate content from places with low signal to noise ratio”. Reddit seems to have a lot of high quality content, but this is swamped by all the low quality content. How can we find useful information on reddit?
